Occupational noise measurements and consulting for employers evaluating workplace sound exposure and OSHA noise requirements.
On-Site Acoustic Testing provides field measurements and technical support for workplace noise investigations. The scope can range from an initial facility noise survey to personal dosimetry and detailed source measurements where employee exposure or noise-control measures require further evaluation.
OSHA Occupational Noise Measurements
For OSHA general industry, 29 CFR 1910.95 establishes an 8-hour permissible exposure limit of 90 dBA using OSHA’s 5 dB exchange rate. The standard’s hearing-conservation provisions apply when employee exposure equals or exceeds an 8-hour time-weighted average of 85 dBA. Measurement settings and sampling strategy are selected for the applicable regulatory and project objective.
Personal Noise Dosimetry
Employees who move between work areas or encounter changing noise conditions may require personal exposure measurements rather than stationary sound-level readings alone. Our noise dosimetry testing documents exposure over the measurement period and can provide TWA, dose and time-history information as appropriate.
Facility Surveys and Noise Sources
Area measurements, frequency-spectrum analysis and equipment or process measurements can supplement dosimetry to identify the sources contributing to employee exposure. See also our industrial and factory testing and specialized noise-source localization services.
Hearing-Conservation Support
Measurement results can be used by an employer to determine which employees or job classifications are affected and to support decisions concerning engineering or administrative controls, hearing protection and hearing-conservation requirements. The appropriate response depends on the measured exposure, work conditions and applicable requirements.
U.S. and International Field Service
OSAT performs workplace noise measurements throughout the United States and internationally. Rush scheduling may be available when project conditions require expedited field work.
